Do you know why I like taking pictures in christenings? Because of children; there is something about their innocence that is just so captivating. Be it from the little angel that is being baptized to the children that run around, taking over the whole area and making it their playground. Their smiles and loughs, contagious energy and that spontaneous look in their eyes make me feel so alive.
And when the christening takes place in a charming place, then christening photography becomes even more special, and the story easier to tell…
Little Antonis was baptized in the beautiful Medieval Monastery of Ayia Napa, right in the middle of the village. The Monastery was built in the form of a Medieval castle with enormous exterior areas. In front of its south gate, there is an ancient sycamore tree, turning this place into a truly a truly idyllic and graphic setting. The Monastery was built around 1500 AD and there are many legends and tails around its creation as well as who placed the tree there. Whatever the truth, it jus doesn’t matter. When you enter the Monastery you can see the history in the surroundings and you can feel nothing but awed.
It was such a beautiful April day, sunny and warm. Flowers blossoming, trees showing off their bright, green leaves, golden light reflecting on the Monastery’s stony walls and colours. Colours everywhere. The perfect Spring day, for a beautiful Christening.
Even baby Antonis must have felt what a glorious day it was. He barely cried, mostly looking around in curiosity, perhaps even fascinated by the buzzing atmosphere.
Thank you Kyriaki and Haris for trusting me with such an important day. I feel nothing but thankful and grateful for experiencing this with you.
